"The Scheele's Widow" one of a kind

I've been playing with this concept of creating costume pieces that can be worn for either performance or as fashion. I went to fashion school and have worked in both the fashion industry as well as costume. In fact, the name of my company, Hiwire, is derived from the concept of balancing the line between the two.

For this piece, I decided to keep it as its original strapless vintage bustier. Normally, I would build an upper structure to make it strictly for performance. Since I know most of you are expert level at rigging pieces up to perform in, I figured it wouldn't be hard to layer a strappy bra or leotard underneath. By keeping it strapless, it means versatility in you wardrobe. I would look amazing layered with a skirt or paired back with other items in your closet. Personally, I would wear it with dark jeans and a velvet blazer. Curious how you'd style it!

The costume comes with ultra high waisted chocolate velvet bottoms that can also be worn with other things. They are high cut and cheeky.

I named this piece "The Scheele's Widow". Scheele was the inventor of the poisonous green pigment from arsenic which was then used to dye Victorian dresses this shade of green.

  • Upcycled, vintage 80's lace bustier has flexible boning and adjustable stretch back.
  • Bustier is dyed and hand painted. Appliqué and fringe are all hand painted with crystal embellishment.
  • Bottoms are high waisted, high cut, and cheeky.
  • Washing instruction: hand wash cool water, roll in towel, hang to dry.
