Kintsugi- "The most beautiful things were once broken." The Kintsugi series is based on the Japanese craft of taking broken pottery and repairing it by putting gold lacquer in the cracks. The philosophy is that the history and breaks of that object are not considered a flaw but something to be honored. We've all been broken and we are all more beautiful for it.
I used a variety of techniques to achieve this broken porcelain look. It was like creating a puzzle and putting the pieces back together. I used stenciling, airbrushing, dying, and hand painting to create these effects.
